When I was a kid, we didn’t have much. We were content with what we had and never asked for much from our parents. That’s because we knew that our budget was just enough for the basic needs of the family.
One of the things I always dream about back then was to own a library filled with books. Lots and lots of books! I was so envious of my two female cousins who used to own a lot of books. I remember I used to touch their pile of books and I would get reprimanded because of it. I swore I would own more books than them. And I think I do now.
We read books to find out who we are. What other people, real or imaginary, do and think and feel is an essential guide to our understanding of what we ourselves are and may become.
- Ursula K. LeGuin
Books have become my refuge. Whenever something’s happening that I didn’t like, my parents fighting especially, I turned to books. Even now, when I am older, I still turn to books whenever I feel down and worried about so many things. Books gave me so many friends. Books brought me to so many different places. Through books, I was able to travel through time and met so many well-known individuals. Books also widened my horizon and improved my vocabulary. I have learned so much from books. It made me who I am right now.
I am still dreaming of books. Are you?
