Book as travel companion

Book as Travel Companion

One of the things that you will see inside my bag when I go out of the house is a book. Currently I am reading The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson. I took the book with me when I went to HongKong last week. I knew that there would be instances when we would wait somewhere and instead of being annoyed with the waste of minutes, I thought I’d bring a book with me so as to make the waiting time useful.

And so I did.

While waiting for the airport shuttle to arrive, I managed to read a few pages of the book. But since I miss my friend from Chicago a lot, I was able to read again only inside the hotel room before going to sleep.

A book is a really good travel companion. Do you bring one with you when you travel?

Back to historical romance

Yes, you read it right! I am back to reading historical romance novels again. I think it’s the hopeless romantic in me. I do think that I will always go back to reading romance novels no matter how hooked I am on A Game of Thrones and so many Young Adult novels I have and looking forward to.

The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever

I am currently reading The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn. It brought back the hopeless romantic in me! The lead character is an ugly duckling of sorts and she fell in love with her best friend’s older brother. It’s so kilig that I am thinking I will be reading this again, when I feel the need for some romance in my life.

I remember being so hooked on romance novels in high school and college. I have so many of that kind of books and most are now worn out due to the number of times I’ve read it.

Ahh love!

Current to-read pile

Unread Books

Hold Tight by Harlan Coben
Kane & Abel by Jeffrey Archer
The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson
Diary of a Wimpy Vampire by Tim Collins
Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot
The Fallen 1 by Thomas Sniegoski
Blue Moon by Alyson Noel

Those are the books that I have in my current pile. I actually have a hundred or so more in a big plastic box waiting for me to take them out and read. I don’t have much time allotted for reading for the past several weeks now that’s why the only book I managed to read from the pile above was Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot. Other than that…

I plan to take the time to read The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson this weekend. Hopefully!

What are you currently reading?

The Passage

the-passage

I am hooked on The Passage by Justin Cronin! Such a heavy read but one that will make you want to turn the page and continue reading even if you need to sleep already. It’s that good!

No, please stop the comparison with Twilight. It’s not even remotely close to it. It’s entirely different and actually a post-apocalyptic story more than anything else. Sure, it involves beings which are vampire-like. But the focus is on the survivors and the little girl who is neither a vampire nor a human being. Her name is Amy.

Go read this book. I am still in the beginning of Book III. I think I will finish it by next week.

Current read: Keeping Her In The Light

Keeping her in the light

I am currently reading Keeping Her In The Light by Nicole Fuentes. I am already more than halfway done. I would have been done by now but I had to stop for a while to concentrate on work. But now I’m through with it, I will be reading the rest of the book and hopefully finish it by tomorrow.

Let me tell you first how I knew about the book…

I am a member of Goodreads. I was browsing for a book I was interested in when I saw it. I read the blurb…

First there was darkness…
A young woman wakes up to find herself in the dark. She does not know how she got there; she does not know why she is there. She feels for a light switch, thinking the light heals all pain.

Then there was light…
Death is only an instant. What light reveals to her is way past death itself. Realization sets in, and it is made clear that escape is out of the question. For a puzzling madman holds her captive, her freedom at the palm of his hand.

Now there is only a decision…
He will kill her only if she exhibits signs of a certain syndrome, and as of now there are only two different ways of ending this madman’s reign: Kill him or stay alive.

Staying alive requires tolerance to pain and despair. It asks of her a precise resistance to a syndrome—one she knows nothing about. If she doesn’t die, no one else has to.

Killing him vanquishes all hopes of freedom, for the key will die with him. Killing him will make her the one monster she swore she would never be: The same beast responsible for building a definite barrier on the line that divides her past from present to possible future—one who has silenced her past forever.

And you can say that I knew right away I had to get a copy of the book. I searched and found Nicole’s different sites. Apparently, the book was sold only through an online site. I emailed Nicole herself and she replied saying that I could either get the book through Fully Booked Boni high branch or through her. Of course I opted to get the book through her so she could sign it as well. And she did.

So now I am reading the book and I will post a review about it as soon as I get done with it.

By the way, Nicole Fuentes is a 16-year-old fellow Filipino who currently lives in the Philippines.

60% done Willow

I had to stop reading Willow from time to time because I kept being distracted by other books that I have. Yesterday, I decided to finally continue reading the book and I am now 60% done with it.

I had to stop for a while. But it’s not because I am distracted by my other books again. It’s just the book is a bit heavy emotionally. It’s not just about a teen-aged girl cutting. It’s more than that.

Anyway, I will post a review of it as soon as I finish the book. And I intend to finish it the soonest time possible.

Weekend update

I haven’t done any covering of books yet. I was too lazy this past weekend to do anything but catch up on sleep. I read a few chapters of two books: Twisted 8 1/2 by Jessica Zafra and Let The Right One In by John Alvide Lindqvist. But that’s all I did. Sleep and read slowly.

I am on the lookout for a good storage box that I can use for my books. I bought one that doubles as a stool. My dad told me it is prone to small bugs. I have cleaned it already. But I won’t be using it for my books anymore. I use that to hold books I haven’t read yet. Since I really spend hard earned money on the books I buy, I don’t want to lose the books to bugs.

I have a big plastic box containing some of my old books. I will have it brought down from the second floor of the house and I will check if I can use it for all my old and new books.
